How it works

Snap a question, step by step.

  1. The Snap a question sheet: take a photo, choose from photos, or upload a whole test

    Snap it

    Take a photo, pick a screenshot, or upload a whole test.

  2. A question the student got wrong, with the solution hidden and a similar question to master

    Try it again first

    The solution stays hidden, so they have another go before looking.

  3. The worked solution: the key idea, three steps and the answer

    See every step

    The key idea, each step, and a check at the end.

  4. The similar question marked right, with a star and +5 XP

    Master it

    Fresh questions on the same idea. Three right and it’s mastered.

The part that matters

Different questions every time.

A question with only the numbers swapped can be answered by copying the steps from the last one. Tuterly keeps the same concepts and changes at least two other things: the context, the structure, the layout, the type of numbers, or how it’s shown. Here is the example from the rules its question writer follows.

The question they got wrong

Solve for xx:

x+23=2x−15\frac{x+2}{3} = \frac{2x-1}{5}

Show solution

Multiply both sides by 15 (the lowest common denominator):

5(x+2)=3(2x−1)5(x+2) = 3(2x-1)5x+10=6x−3⇒x=135x + 10 = 6x - 3 \quad\Rightarrow\quad x = 13

Check: 153=5\tfrac{15}{3} = 5 and 255=5\tfrac{25}{5} = 5.

Not this: only the numbers changed

Solve for xx:

x+43=2x−35\frac{x+4}{3} = \frac{2x-3}{5}

This: new context and layout, same concepts

Mia’s phone plan costs a third of (c+6)(c + 6) dollars a week. Leo’s costs a quarter of (3c−2)(3c - 2) dollars. For what value of cc do they pay the same?

Show solution
c+63=3c−24\frac{c+6}{3} = \frac{3c-2}{4}

Multiply both sides by 12:

4(c+6)=3(3c−2)4(c+6) = 3(3c-2)4c+24=9c−6⇒c=64c + 24 = 9c - 6 \quad\Rightarrow\quad c = 6

Both pay $4 a week.

Or this: new structure, same concepts

Sam solved this equation and got x=1x = 1.

x+12=x−34\frac{x+1}{2} = \frac{x-3}{4}

Find his mistake and give the correct answer.

Show solution

Multiply both sides by 4:

2(x+1)=x−32(x+1) = x - 32x+2=x−3⇒x=−52x + 2 = x - 3 \quad\Rightarrow\quad x = -5

Sam’s x=1x = 1 comes from writing x+3x + 3 instead of x−3x - 3 on the right.

Why it helps

Small details that make it stick.

Hints, not answers

Stuck? A hint shows the method, then the first step. Never the answer.

Explain this

Got it wrong? It points to the exact step that went wrong.

Reads handwriting

If a photo is unclear it asks “Is this what you wrote?”, or they can type it.

Questions

Good to know.

Isn’t this just a way to get answers?

No. The solution is hidden until they choose to see it, hints never give the answer away, and a question is only mastered when they get fresh versions right themselves.

What if there are several questions in one photo?

Tuterly splits them into a checklist, so they can choose which ones to add.

Better maths marks start with the next wrong answer.

Tuterly turns every missed maths question into practice tailored towards the student, not just a generic worksheet.
