Factorising quadratics
x2+bx+c=(x+p)(x+q),x^2 + bx + c = (x + p)(x + q), where pq=cpq = c and p+q=bp + q = b
Difference of two squares
a2−b2=(a−b)(a+b)a^2 - b^2 = (a - b)(a + b)
Quadratic formula
x=−b±b2−4ac2ax = \dfrac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac}}{2a}
Discriminant
Δ=b2−4ac\Delta = b^2 - 4ac(>0:(> 0: two solutions, =0:, \ = 0: one, <0:, \ < 0: none))
Simultaneous equations
substitute one equation into the other, or add/subtract to eliminate a pronumeral
Inverse proportion
y=kxy = \dfrac{k}{x}

Graphs

Straight line
y=mx+cy = mx + cm=y2−y1x2−x1m = \dfrac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1}
Parallel and perpendicular lines
parallel: m1=m2m_1 = m_2perpendicular: m1×m2=−1m_1 \times m_2 = -1
Parabola, turning point form
y=a(x−h)2+ky = a(x - h)^2 + k((turning point (h,k))(h, k))
Axis of symmetry
x=−b2ax = -\dfrac{b}{2a}for y=ax2+bx+cy = ax^2 + bx + c
Circle
(x−h)2+(y−k)2=r2(x - h)^2 + (y - k)^2 = r^2((centre (h,k),(h, k), radius r)r)
Exponential
y=a×bxy = a \times b^x

Measurement and money

Compound interest
A=P(1+r)nA = P(1 + r)^nI=A−PI = A - P(r(r per period as a decimal, n, \ n periods))
Trigonometry
sin⁡θ=OH\sin\theta = \dfrac{O}{H}cos⁡θ=AH\cos\theta = \dfrac{A}{H}tan⁡θ=OA\tan\theta = \dfrac{O}{A}
Cylinder
V=πr2hV = \pi r^2 hSA=2πr2+2πrhSA = 2\pi r^2 + 2\pi r h
Prism
V=AhV = A h(A(A is the area of the cross-section))

Statistics and probability

Interquartile range
IQR =Q3−Q1= Q_3 - Q_1
Outliers
below Q1−1.5×Q_1 - 1.5 \times IQR or above Q3+1.5×Q_3 + 1.5 \times IQR
Independent events
P(AP(A and B)=P(A)×P(B)B) = P(A) \times P(B)
Conditional probability (two-way table)
P(A∣B)=number in A and Bnumber in BP(A \mid B) = \dfrac{\text{number in } A \text{ and } B}{\text{number in } B}
