Optional content in WA, for students heading to Mathematics Methods. Some go beyond the WA curriculum.
From 2026, every WA school teaches SCSA's revised Western Australian Curriculum: Mathematics, adapted from the Australian Curriculum v9 and the NSW syllabus.
Some topics moved. Algebraic fractions, solving simultaneous equations algebraically and circle geometry are now Year 10 optional content. Congruence is in Year 9 and similar triangles in Year 10. Pythagoras starts in Year 8.
Logarithm laws, the factor and remainder theorems and polynomials are not in the WA curriculum, so they are left off this page.
Senior maths courses are Mathematics Essential, Mathematics Applications, Mathematics Methods and Mathematics Specialist.
